On a warm summer's day there isn't much better than cooling off in one of our local waterways.
Whether it's the surf, the harbour or a river, there are plenty of popular swimming spots around the Bay that people flock to, including Pilot Bay.
However, at the weekend, people were being warned to stay out of the water at Pilot Bay - one of Tauranga's busiest swimming spots because of a wastewater contamination.
How sad is that?

The Tauranga City Council posted an announcement that there had been a wastewater overflow at Pilot Bay in Mount Maunganui. Signs were erected at Pilot Bay alerting beachgoers of a "temporary health warning", warning against fishing, swimming and collecting shellfish.
The council said it was sending water samples to be tested for bacteria but would not get the results back until early this week.
Pilot Bay is a popular family swimming spot in the Tauranga Harbour and is next to where thousands of cruise passengers disembark, with thousands of extra visitors expected over the weekend with six cruise ships sailing into the port between Friday and Tuesday.
While it's likely there were loads of people whose plans to cool off at Pilot Bay had to be changed yesterday, the saddest part is obviously the contamination itself, the impacts on wildlife and how long this is expected to be a problem.
Let's hope this temporary health warning ends without any major damage caused.
