Firefighters are battling a 300 square metre scrub fire alongside the Te Puke Highway near Welcome Bay Rd.
Fire shift manager Scott Osmond said two or three fire appliances were at the scene.
He said toe toe grass was on fire.
There are cordons at the roundabout of Paxton Rd and Tara Rd and the Te Puke Highway is believed to be closed.
This follows reports of a car hitting a power pole in Papamoa.
A police spokeswoman said all emergency services had been called at 2.05pm to the intersection of Bell Rd and Paxton Rd.
It appeared one person was in the vehicle.
Also, a problem with a train signal has caused traffic delays on Bell Rd.
A photographer at the scene said the train barrier arms had lowered for no reason and traffic had become badly backed up.
He said police officers were directing traffic over the railway line.
