On the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth, the International Nurses Day will be held at Tauranga Hospial next month.
Past and present Tauranga hospital-trained nurses are invited to celebrate International Nurses Day which will highlighting the contributions made by nurses all over the world.
This year's theme is Nurses: A Force for Change - Care Effective, Cost Effective.
Bay of Plenty District Health Board (BOPDHB) Director of Nursing Julie Robinson said in a statement that the scope of practise for nurses has come a long way since Florence Nightingale lead the way for modern nurses.
"Nurses are often the first and primary point of contact for people accessing health services and a career in nursing allows nurses many options including specialisation in different areas."
As part of the event, Nurse Educator for Medical Services, Louise Fowler will be speaking about the subject, How research informs effective patient care.
International Nurses Day will be held on May 12 at Tauranga Hospital's Conference Centre starting at 2:30pm.
