Children and babies in Bay hospitals will benefit from extra equipment again this year thanks to the annual Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal.
A cheque for $95,884 was handed over to the Bay of Plenty District Health Board this morning which will buy more extensive equipment for Tauranga Hospital and Whakatane Hospital.
Margret Norris of the DHB said the money would be used in the Children's Ward, the Special Care Baby Unit and for children or babies in the community.
The extra funding bought equipment not usually accessible to public hospitals.
"You can deliver care you could only ever dream about... It's an investment in children's health."
The appeal is now in its eighth year.
