Omanu School and Gwen Rogers Kindergarten will be celebrated tonight when they receive an Enviroschools Green Gold Award.
The Green Gold Award is the highest level of achievement recognised by the national Enviroschools programme.
It will be the first time in New Zealand that a school and kindergarten have worked in partnership to achieve it.
Bay of Plenty Regional Councillor Phillip Sherry will be presenting the award, which recognises the efforts of teachers and students who have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to sustainability in their school, kindergarten and community.
The school and kindergarten have organised a community duathlon and picnic to follow the award presentation.
