Pedal power will be the driving force behind this season's finale of the Night Owl Cinema.
The outdoor cinema project was launched in November and a different film has screened at the waterfront each month, in conjunction with the Little Big Markets.
This Friday will see the last of this season's films but the movie will be powered by push bikes.
Organiser Kimberley Cleland said she and a friend attended the Silo Park outdoor cinema in Auckland and thought the concept would work in Tauranga.
She said the outdoor movie project had been well received and organisers wanted to do something different for the last one.
"We have 10 bicycles which will power the projector and PA, so it will be a people-powered event," she said.
"We have a team of cyclists who can take turns but essentially they will be the power to screen the movie."
Ms Cleland said this month was also Sustainable Backyards Month and it was a way of contributing to a sustainable future.
She said Friday's movie would be a series of short films with the main feature being Carving the Future, a 25-minute documentary by Guy Ryan and Nick Holmes.
Other movies screened included Boy, Home Alone and Princess Bride.
Entry is by gold coin but Ms Cleland said organisers were still looking for sponsorship to help recoup the cost of running the event.
"If we had 250 people donate $10 each we would have enough to pay for the event and the cycle unit we are using to power it on Friday," she said.
On Friday the markets run from 5pm to 9pm and the movies would start after that.
