A total of 1526 gifts were collected for the Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal from the Tauranga and Mount Maunganui this year.
About 40,600 gifts were donated nationwide.
Now in its 19th year, the Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal aimed to collect 40,000 gifts for charity partner The Salvation Army to distribute to families in need, ensuring there were no empty stockings on Christmas Day.
During the 19 years the appeal has been running, 350,000 gifts have been donated to families in New Zealand.
