Bay locals heading to the Mount for New Year's Eve are being urged to take public transport, with many roads closed in the area for the celebrations.
Marine Parade from Adams Avenue to Pacific Avenue and Adams Avenue from Marine Parade to Maunganui Road will be closed from December 27- January 6 from 8pm until 6am daily.
Marine Parade from Adams Avenue to Pacific Avenue will be closed from 6am December 30 until 12pm on January 1.
The following roads will be closed from 6am December 31 until 12pm January 1: Maunganui Road from Tay Street to Banks/Salisbury Avenue, Totara Street from Kawaka Street to Rata Street and the full length of Grove Avenue, Nikau Crescent and Rata Street.
The Strand from Devonport Road to Hamilton Street will be closed from 5am December 31 until 8am January 1.
A free Park n Ride will be set up at Kawaka Street from 11am on New Year's Eve until 2am on New Years Day, taking revellers into the event zone and Bayline Coaches will run a $15 New Year's Eve bus service with pick up locations around the city. Tickets can be purchased from the driver on the night.
Mount Maunganui residents within the road closure zones can get a pass from the Beach Base at Mount Drury with proof of address or from the Park n Ride station on Kawaka Street.
