Tauranga's newest adventure tourism venture has opened at the TECT All Terrain Park with the public invited to test their skills and nerves.
Set among a 25-year-old grove of pine trees the Adrenalin Forest is a multi-level course featuring aerial pathways between trees including flying foxes, swing bridges, nets and barrels.
Operations manager Ian Olsen said the course was the third to open in New Zealand following Christchurch and Wellington.
"It's got over 90 different challenges and about 20 flying foxes and the top height's about 18 metres," he said.
The course, which was opened on Friday, could be used for fitness, adventure activity team-building exercises or a way of overcoming a fear of heights, Mr Olsen said.
He said most visitors spent up to three hours completing each of the seven pathways through the course, at all times attached to a safety wire.
"After that you'd pretty much be worn out," he said.
Mr Olsen said the course took nearly four months to build and come summer would employ five or six full-time staff.
Located near the park's arrival centre, there is room for the Adrenalin Forest to be expanded both in size and the level of challenge it provides.
Full entry is open to those taller than 1.45m while the first two pathways are open to those over 1.3m. Mr Olsen said the course was generally suited to those aged over 10 or 11. Cost of entry to the Adrenalin Forest is $25 for a child and $38 for a adult. Other prices apply for students and younger children.
