Welfare reforms announced by the Government yesterday are expected to ramp up the pressure on beneficiaries to return to the workforce.
A Tauranga sickness beneficiary feared today her benefit was at risk. The Bethlehem woman, 23 has a brain tumour and has been on the benefit for five years.
"I reckon in some cases [the new rules] are fair, because there are probably people that don't need to be on benefits that are on benefits," she said.
"It does worry me that they are going to put mothers in work, and people that are genuinely sick.
"I do want to work, they tried to find me part time work about a year ago, but there wasn't any."
