Pink, rose, salmon, reddish _ whatever shade of pink took your fancy, it was on display in all its glory in central Tauranga last night to support breast cancer awareness.
More than 4000 women, children and men packed The Strand for the annual 2008 ASB 4.5km Women's Fun Walk, and fundraiser.
Supporters started the event by writing the name of someone who has died from breast cancer on a pink balloon, which was then released at the start of the walk.
Under a sky of bobbing balloons and to the Cyndi Lauper hit Girls Just Want to Have Fun _ and screaming sirens from the Tauranga Fire Brigade _ the pink convoy set off on the annual fun walk.
Pitched as a women only walk, a few supportive men sneaked in, dressed up in wigs and dresses stuffed with balloons as breasts.
The women's outfits varied from the conservative to the outlandish, with everything from tutus to bunny ears, feather boas, masquerade masks, cowboy hats, lolly and flower trimmed bras to angel wings and pink wigs.
Most took the opportunity to wear their underwear on the outside of their clothes, with two friends even attaching working fairy lights to theirs.
The fun walk was a team effort by the Breast Cancer Support Service (BCSS) Tauranga in conjunction with organiser Iris Thomas, and was supported by local businesses.
