Tauranga police are yet to lay charges after the hit-and-run death of Te Puke man Peter Simpson near Welcome Bay last month.
Mr Simpson, 40, died when struck from behind by a Toyota car while he and his 17-year-old son Hemi walked on the left shoulder about 400m east of the Welcome Bay turnoff on State Highway 2, shortly after midnight on February 12.
Strategic traffic unit Sergeant Lester Polglase said police investigations were continuing. He could not confirm charges would be laid.
Tauranga police have confirmed they are conducting a formal inquiry into the circumstances of Mr Simpson's death, even though no complaint had been lodged, after allegations surfaced that police had refused to give him a lift home just before the hit-and-run driver killed him.
