Sun sensitive Lanewayers rejoice: shade and grass have been announced as the headlining acts at this year's festival, taking place for the first time in the glorious Albert Park this Anniversary Day.
The new venue is quite seriously a game changer. The whole 'feel' of the day will be different - grass is way more comfortable than concrete and asphalt, and the greenery will provide a more tranquil environment. The music will probably even sound better too. Albert Park will feel like Laneway's true home.
Here are The Aucklander's top five picks. (Warning: some of these tracks have explicit language.)
Mick Jenkins
Chicago's a breeding ground for intelligent, progressive hip-hop talent. Jenkins is 25 and touring on the back of his sixth project, but first full-length release. The most slept-on act in this year's line up.
k2k
Wellington house producer Katherine Anderson. Red Bull Music Academy alumni, part of the Inky Waves collective throwing parties around the country and releasing her debut EP on Wellington house and techno label MARGINS any day now. Support local!
Car Seat Headrest
The lo-fi, DIY indie rock project of 23-year-old Will Toledo. Would have made a ton of Myspace profiles, but actually relatively ambitious and surprisingly interesting. Was listed in a million end of year best album lists. Label mates with Kurt Vile, Interpol and Queens of the Stone Age.
Floating Points
British electronic artist Sam Shepherd. Cerebral, enveloping, shape shifting dance music. Will take you on a journey.
Whitney
On the lighter end of what is essentially 'indie-folk-rock', but actually really good. Former members of Smith Westerns and the drummer of Kiwi rock royalty Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Charming, earnest and joyfully melancholic.
There's also going to be bars spread across the venue and a ton of amazing food, with 18 unique food vendors delivering up tasty treats with eaters of all diets catered for.
Somehow in spite of all this tickets for Monday's event are still available!
