Five top cakers spent over 300 hours crafting world-class works of edible art which were on display at Shore City on Auckland's North Shore.
Sweet Bites Cakes was announced the winner after three weeks of public voting.
The stunning creation by cake artist Sondra Velich, was inspired by a Christian Dior couture gown and reflected the opulence and glamour of the 'haute couture' competition theme.
The impressive cake artistry took over 60 hours to create and proved to be a crowd favourite.
The winning entry by Sweet Bites Cakes used intricate cake decorating techniques for the fondant ruffles, airbrushed shimmer tiers, handcrafted sugar roses, wired blossoms and leaves, hand painted fondant and edible sugarveil lace.
Shore City Marketing Manager, Anna Gervai.said the exhibit was an unusual event for a shopping centre but had proved immensely popular.
"The response we've received from the public over the last 3 weeks has been fantastic. It was such a different and unexpected event compared to what people are used to seeing in shopping centres," Gervai said.
