An Auckland man has been fined for carrying out unauthorised drainlaying work in Glendwoie.
Glenn Rodgers was fined $3,250 and ordered to pay $130 court costs and a $113 solicitor's fee in the Auckland District Court for conducting drainlaying work at a home in Glendowie without holding an authorisation from the Board.
Sanitary Plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying are regulated industries in New Zealand and it is illegal to do this restricted work unless authorised by the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board.
The Board's Chief Executive, Martin Sawyers says; "It's vital that regions such as Auckland, experiencing increases in new dwelling building consents can rely on competent tradespeople. The reason the provision of these services are restricted is because of the serious effects that this type of substandard work can have on public health and safety."
"This prosecution resulted from a Board investigation following a complaint by the homeowners, and serves as a timely reminder for consumers not to risk their family's health and safety or their insurance by hiring unauthorised people", he added.
"Any defective work has the potential to cause disease and serious damage to the property, said Mr Sawyers. If a homeowner believes that work has been done by someone who is not authorised, or has concerns about the competency of tradespeople, they can make a complaint to the Board."
