Area Description:

Manukau and Waitemata Harbours, Hauraki Gulf and Bream Head to Cape Colville.

Situation:

A high lies over the South Island, and extends onto the North Island today. Northwesterlies strengthen over the lower South Island late Friday ahead of a slow moving front approaching from the Tasman Sea. The front moves onto the lower South Island Sunday.

For Manukau and Waitemata Harbours: Thursday: Variable 5 knots. Southerly 10 knots developing this morning, rising to 15 knots in the afternoon. Sea slight. Morning low cloud and fog clearing to fine. For the Hauraki Gulf and Bream Head to Cape Colville: Thursday: Southerly 10 knots, but afternoon sea breezes to 10 knots. Becoming southwest 10 knots late evening. Sea slight. Morning low cloud and fog clearing to fine.

Outlook:

Outlook until midnight Monday: Friday: Southerly 10 knots becoming southeast 10 knots in the morning, then easterly 15 knots in the outer gulf in the evening. Fine. Saturday: Southeast 10 knots rising to 20 knots in the gulf later. Mostly fine, except for a few showers about the Outer Gulf. Sunday: Becoming easterly 10 knots but 15 knots in the outer gulf. Mostly fine, except for a few showers about the Outer Gulf.

Swell:

Swell forecast to midnight Monday: East Coast: Northeast half a metre, but easterly 1 to 1.5 metres in the Outer Gulf. West Coast: Southwest 1 metre, rising to 2 metres this morning, easing to 1.5 metres Saturday and 1 metre Sunday.
