Area Description:

Manukau and Waitemata Harbours, Hauraki Gulf and Bream Head to Cape Colville.

Situation:

A southwest flow affects much of the country as a cold front moves away to the north. Another front moves over the lower South Island early today. The flow tips westerly over South Island from later today and remains strong in the far south, but eases over the rest of the country as a ridge slowly extends east across the upper North Island. The ridge remains in place into Wednesday.

Warnings:

Strong wind advisory in force for the area from Bream Head to Cape Colville.

Forecast:

For Manukau and Waitemata Harbours: Sunday: Southwest 15 knots. Southwest easing to 10 knots in the evening. Sea slight, but choppy when wind opposes tide. Fair visibility in a few Showers before dawn, then cloudy periods. For the Hauraki Gulf: Sunday: Southwest 20 knots, easing to 15 knots in the evening. Moderate sea, easing evening, but choppy when wind opposes tide. Fair visibility in a few morning showers, then cloudy periods. For Bream Head to Cape Colville: Sunday: Southwest 20 knots rising to 25 knots gusting 35 knots about Colville Channel in the afternoon, easing to southwest 15 knots everywhere in the evening. Sea becoming rough about Colville Channel afternoon, easing evening. Fair visibility in a few morning showers, then cloudy periods.

Outlook until midnight Thursday: Monday: Southwest 15 knots, easing to 10 knots in the evening. Cloudy periods, isolated showers developing. Tuesday: Southwest 10 knots. Morning cloudy areas, with isolated showers in the west,then long fine spells. Wednesday: Southwest 10 knots, easing to variable 5 knots later. Fine spells.

Swell:

Swell forecast to midnight Thursday: East Coast: In the outer gulf - Easterly half a metre, rising to 1 metre later Tuesday. Elsewhere - Northeasterly half a metre. West Coast: Southwest 2.5 metres, easing to 2 metre for a time this morning and afternoon. Easing back to 2 metres later Tuesday.
