A weak ridge lies over the North Island today, while a series of fronts pass up the South Island during today and Friday. These fronts weaken as they cross the North Island on Friday and Saturday,followed by another weak ridge. An active trough approaches the country from the Tasman Sea on Sunday.

For the Hauraki Gulf and the area from Bream Head to Cape Colville: Thursday: Southwest 20 knots, easing to westerly 15 knots in the morning, and becoming northwest 10 knots this afternoon. Rising to 15 knots early this evening and to 20 knots late this evening. Moderate sea easing in the morning and returning in the evening.
