A range of memorial services will be held around the Bay of Plenty area to honour the soldiers who fought at Gallipoli and those involved other conflicts this year on Anzac Day.

There will be dawn services those wanting to attend a service at the crack of daylight and a range of other ceremonies held later in the day.

This comes as Anzac Day commemorations at most West Auckland-based Returned Services Associations locations are cancelled this year following fears of counter-actions to the Christchurch terrorist attacks.

Tauranga City Council events manager Gareth Wallis and Mount Maunganui RSA club support manager Peter Moss said the council had no plans to cancel any of the ceremonies.

New Zealand Police assistant commissioner Mike Rusbtach said there was no indication of any threat to any Anzac service.

He said the police were working with the RSA and councils on the police response that might be required.

This may involve the consolidation or combining of some services in a particular area where there is an opportunity to do so, which will help ensure that those services requiring a police presence are prioritised, he said.
