Should the internet use of young people be monitored?

Police are to investigate a number of internet chatroom users caught in a television sting offering sex to someone they believed was an underage girl.

Footage and transcripts of conversations with several men have been handed to police by TVNZ's Close Up following the operation in which a male producer at the programme posed as a fictitious 14-year-old girl in an internet chatroom.

Many of those who propositioned the "girl" in the chatroom later arranged to meet her - but were confronted by a Close Up reporter when they approached an actress posing as the 14-year-old.
