The Black Caps have pulled off a remarkable test victory over Australia by seven runs at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart.

It is New Zealand's first over Australia since 1993 at Eden Park and their first in Australia since 1986.

Australia, chasing 241 for victory, began the day needing 169 runs to win with 10 wickets on hand and were cruising at 159 for two midway through the opening session.

The win tied the test series at 1-1 after Australia won the first match in Brisbane.
