Obama has called for stricter controls for gun purchases

The Colorado shooting that killed 12 and wounded 58 has once again revived debate about strengthening gun control in a nation with one of the world's highest numbers of deaths by firearm. President Barack Obama has called for stricter controls for gun purchases, while the gun lobby insists that the 270 million firearms in civilian hands are actually making the nation safer.
