New Zealand archer Ken Uprichard exited from the Olympic archery competition this morning, after losing 160-155 to Briton Simon Needham.
Needham had qualified with the eighth-highest score, Uprichard with the eighth lowest, but the young New Zealander kept on the pressure in an 18-arrow matchplay battle over 70 metres.
Uprichard matched Needham in the first flight of three arrows, and was still only three points adrift after four of the allowable six flights.
Needham, a Royal Marine, all but sealed the contest on the next end, unleashing two 10s and an eight, as Uprichard went 8, 7, 10.
