WELLINGTON - "Teething problems" at Wellington's WestpacTrust Stadium are being blamed for a $301,000 deficit for the nine months to March 31.
Operating revenue for the first quarter of this year was $188,000 more than projected but costs ballooned to $636,000, 40 per cent of revenue instead of the budgeted 27 per cent.
The Wellington Regional Stadium Trust has presented financial reports to the regional council for the January to March quarter, in which the stadium hosted 11 events over 22 days.
"We experienced the expected number of teething problems during these early events and there has been measurable improvement at each event since the opening," the reports said.
Queuing times for food had been up to 45 minutes in January but were down to 15 minutes for its Super 12 games.
But construction of a bus parking area had taken longer than expected and resolving other problems had been more costly than expected.
