Auckland International Airport has snared The Warehouse Group as a key tenant of a new commercial property project.
As part of its ongoing property development, the airport will today announce plans for its latest project, the Airport Retail Centre.
Other specialty retail outlets will accompany The Warehouse and will open simultaneously.
The airport says that the centre has an initial capital commitment of more than $6 million for the site, on the corner of George Bolt Drive and John Goulter Drive.
The Warehouse, which will be the principal outlet in the centre, has already begun development of the site for its 5225 sq m store. Completion is set for November.
According to The Warehouse's property director, Glen Inger, the airport store was part of the group's plan to add more than 35,000 sq m of floor space before December.
Airport managing director John Goulter described the centre as a ``mini city.'' It would target the 7500 airport staff as well as passengers and visitors. ``The Warehouse will open for extended hours to accommodate these special markets.''
Meanwhile, the airport is expected to announce today three new design and build commercial projects with capital commitments of more than $4 million. Individual sites have been developed for TNT Express Worldwide (NZ), Vehicle Testing and a small office building for a variety of tenants. All are expected to be operational by December 2000.
The new tenants follow the recent completion of facilities for Manukau City Toyota, Firestone Direct and Total Logistic Company. Mr Goulter said the developments were a progression of the airport's property development programme gaining momentum.
