Kiwi boardsailor Aaron McIntosh improved a spot to finish the second day of the 2000 Mistral world championships in Argentina fourth equal overall.
McIntosh, seeking to regain the title he relinquished in New Caledonia last October, won the first race of the day off the coast of Mar del Plata and recorded a fourth in the second race in placid conditions.
In contrast to the opening day the winds were light to non-existent, forcing the postponement of races off Varese Beach. Racing finally got underway but the winds rarely exceeded five knots.
The boardsailors were able to discard their worst placing after the first four races, McIntosh dropping an 11th from day one to finish on nine points - five adrift of leader Joao Rodriguez of Portugal.
Defending champion Lars Kleppich, of Australia, is second equal with Frenchman Alexandre Guyader on eight.
Olympic champion Lee Lai Shan of Hong Kong leads the women's regatta from Italian Alessandra Sensini and Lise Vidal of France.
Meanwhile, injured New Zealand boardsailor Bruce Kendall returned home yesterday grateful for the assistance given him by the French Olympic team in Argentina. Kendall wrenched his lower back and was forced to lie on his side for three days ahead of this week's championships.
The French squad, who were having their second Olympic trial at Mar del Plata, helped Kendall get back on his feet.
He is hoping to be fit for the national trials next month.
