A father has been charged with abandoning his now missing toddler after he left her alone in a coyote-infested area because she did not drink her milk, legal documents show.
In an interview the girl's father, Wesley Mathews, said that he told Sherin to stand near a large tree near his home early that morning because she would not drink her milk.
When he returned 15 minutes later, he could not find her, the MailOnline reported.
Sgt. Kevin Perlich told WFAA that police weren't called to the scene where she was last seen until after five hours.
Wesley is said to have told the responding officer "he knew coyotes had been seen in the alley where he left his daughter."
The small girl, who was last seen wearing black leggings with a pink shirt and pink sandals, has not been seen since then.
According to police, Sherin has developmental issues and limited verbal communication skills.
Wesley Mathews was charged with abandoning or endangering a child. He was arraigned for endangerment on Sunday, with a bond set at $250,000.
Dogs have been used in the search of the girl and police have gone door-to-door looking for any information on the girl's whereabouts.
They also confiscated two SUV's and a minivan for "any potential evidence."
