UNITED NATIONS (AP) " The United Nations says invitations for U.N.-sponsored talks on Syria that are to start in Geneva on Feb. 20 will be issued "in the coming days" " not Wednesday as expected.
U.N. spokesman Stephane Dujarric said Wednesday that U.N. special envoy Staffan de Mistura and his team are continuing discussions and invitations will be sent when they reach "a position of comfort."
De Mistura will oversee the talks. He announced Jan. 31 that invitations would be issued around Feb. 8.
The envoy said then that if the opposition wasn't united he would select the delegation and ensure it was as inclusive as possible, including women who did not previously participate.
Dujarric refused to say whether talks were continuing with opposition groups and whether de Mistura was choosing the opposition delegation.
