UN says toilets save money and lives

UNITED NATIONS (AP) " The United Nations says toilets save money and lives.

U.N. Secretary General said this year's observance of World Toilet Day on Saturday will focus on 'toilets and jobs' " the impact of sanitation on livelihoods and work environments.

"Toilets play a crucial role in creating a strong economy," Ban said in a statement. "A lack of toilets at work and at home has severe consequences, including poor health leading to absenteeism, reduced concentration, exhaustion, and decreased productivity. About 17 per cent of all workplace deaths are caused by disease transmission at work."

According to the U.N. some 2.4 billion people across the world lack access to toilets which leaves them struggling to stay well and keep their children alive.
