SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador (AP) " El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala are planning to launch their joint anti-gang forces on Nov. 15.
El Salvador's Ministry of Justice and Security said Thursday the joint police and military units will combat the street gangs that have formed links across the region.
The presidents of the three nations signed agreements in August to create the joint forces, which will operate in border areas.
The task forces will also engage in intelligence sharing, and speed up the process of handing over suspects caught in one country to another country.
Following El Salvador's crackdown on street gangs earlier this year, the two other countries feared gang members would spill over their borders.
Some of the same gangs operate in all three countries, often trafficking in drugs and operating extortion rackets.
