An engagement party turned ugly when the older brother of the groom-to-be allegedly mowed down his sibling during a celebration on the Gold Coast.
The two men allegedly got into an argument while a 32-year-old man was celebrating his future nuptials in the suburb of Tallai.
"Towards the end of the night things got a little out of hand, a little heated," one of the revellers, Nick Gleeson, told Nine News.
"There was a couple of arguments and then everything came out onto the street here."
Police confirmed that they were called to the Alawara Drive address about 11.30pm on Saturday.
It is alleged that the older brother, 39, got into his car to leave the party but his sibling stood in front of the car and tried to stop him.
"The driver accelerated and the man was thrown into the air and landed on a nature strip," a police spokeswoman told news.com.au.
The Upper Coomera man was taken to with serious injuries including internal injuries and leg and arm fractures.
The driver, a 39-year-old Nerang man, fled the scene but police located him and he was taken into custody about 8am Sunday.
He will face two charges, including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm.
