Official: 5 kidnapped from bus in northern border state

CIUDAD VICTORIA, Mexico (AP) " Officials in a northern Mexico border state say they are investigating the kidnapping of five people taken off a passenger bus.

Tamaulipas state Interior Secretary Herminio Garza said Friday that authorities had located and interviewed the bus' two drivers on Thursday night.

Early reports had put the number of kidnapped passengers at 15. But Garza said the drivers reported leaving the border city of Nuevo Laredo on Monday with nine passengers and heading for Ciudad Acuna. They were not sure if they were in Tamaulipas or Coahuila when men in three vehicles stopped the bus. They damaged a rear-view mirror, but did not shoot or show arms.

He says investigators are coordinating with their counterparts in Coahuila, but no missing persons report has been filed.
