Girl OK after being left in hot SUV; dad, grandma arrested

LAKE WALES, Fla. (AP) " A Florida man and his mother are facing child neglect charges after authorities say they left a 3-year-old girl alone in a sports utility vehicle while they shopped at a Wal-Mart store.

Lake Wales police Lt. David Black said in a news release that a customer saw the child Wednesday afternoon and notified store employees.

The Ledger (http://bit.ly/2bnduUA ) reports officers broke the front window and pulled her out. The child was crying, but otherwise fine.

Black says the temperature at the time was 86 degrees.

Police arrested 28-year-old Timothy Adams and 57-year-old Anna Adams. They told investigators they each thought the other had taken the child from the vehicle.

Jail records didn't list attorneys for the two.

The Department of Children and Families took the girl and an older child.
