Fire extinguisher use leads to evacuation at Palms Resort

LAS VEGAS (AP) " Fire officials say guests evacuated one floor of the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas early this morning only to find out it was a false alarm.

Clark County Assistant Fire Chief Larry Haydu says that a fire extinguisher was deployed at the casino early Saturday, triggering alarms and spurring an evacuation of the 35th floor.

According to Haydu, several firefighters and fire engines descended on the hotel around 4 a.m. after getting a report of smoke.

He says someone had "maliciously" discharged the extinguisher.

The call was canceled 15 minutes later.

Haydu did not say whether they planned to investigate the incident further.
