Calais port chief offers regret for border delays

LONDON (AP) " The head of the Port of Calais says he'll complain to French authorities about massive delays faced by people trying to cross the border at Dover.

Jean-Marc Puissesseau told the BBC that he was ashamed of the delays caused by the French failure to prepare for increased border checks. Delays were minimal on Monday after a weekend of gridlock, but travelers have been warned of disruption in the weeks ahead.

Puissesseau told the BBC he was "sorry for the British passengers" who had to wait a long time because of the controls. Puissesseau says that he understands that French police have imposed more controls because of terrorism fears, but he "cannot understand" why more security forces weren't assigned to do the checks.
