Twitter has suspended an account featuring images of child rape after an online campaign from Charlotte Dawson.

The former New Zealand TV personality tweeted a complaint about the account to her 52,500 followers yesterday.

She continued to urge followers to report the account in a series of subsequent tweets.

Dawson repeatedly urged a Twitter representative to contact her about the offending account and told followers she had reported the matter to the police.

The account was suspended after Twitter reportedly received thousands of complaints.

Dawson celebrated the news in a tweet sent late last night.

However, she is continuing to blast Twitter for failing to get in touch with her and leaving the account up for several hours after she drew attention to it.
