A police officer has been killed in a suspected axe attack in Sydney's northwest while responding to a domestic dispute.
The male officer was part of a police response to the incident at a rural property in Scheyville Rd, Oakville, about 2pm (AEST) on Thursday.
Paramedics were called to the scene about 4.15pm and treated the injured officer.
Sometime after 5pm he was rushed to Hawkesbury Hospital, where he died.
Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione is believed to be heading to the scene.
Two people have been arrested, according to media reports.
Police had been responding to a dispute between two neighbours, one of whom could have been carrying a bow and arrow, the Seven Network reported.
It is 252nd death of police officer on duty in NSW.
