An 84-year-old man has fought off two armed intruders who broke into his home on the NSW mid north coast.
Police said two men, armed with a hammer and a metal pole, entered the man's Conwallis Close home about 2am on Sunday.
After picking up a knife from the kitchen, the pair entered the elderly man's bedroom and demanded he hand over money from his wallet.
The man fought back and managed to break the blade off the knife and stab one of the attackers in the stomach.
He then disarmed the attacker with the pole and chased the assailants from his home.
The robbers left with the man's wallet.
The elderly man was taken to Port Macquarie Hospital where he was treated for cuts to his head and leg.
Police said in a statement that the offenders both had heavy builds and one was very tall.
They said the attackers wore dark hooded jumpers and had their faces concealed.
Police are appealing for information from the public.
