Two people have been killed and 10 others were wounded in a suicide attack outside a hotel restaurant in Mogadishu, witnesses and officials told DPA.
The two suicide bombers, whose vests exploded after security guards slowed down their access to the Village Hotel, also died. A policeman and a civilian were the two who were killed in Saturday's attack.
The blasts destroyed scores of luxury cars parked outside of the hotel.
"No government officials were harmed in the attack but one policeman was confirmed dead in the blasts. Several civilians were also wounded and we are now investigating how the blasts happened," Abduulahi Hassan Barrise, a police spokesman, told DPA.
The spokesman said that several government officials, including himself, and many civilians were inside the Village Hotel at the time of the attack.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Al-Shabaab, one of the most militant groups, has been waging an insurgency against the government since 2007.
The Village Hotel is owned by businessman Ahmed Jama, who returned to Somalia recently from London. His business, which includes other locations with the name the Village, has been a target of Islamist militia.
In Saturday's attack, the bombers attempted to get past security guards and gain entrance into the restaurant of the Village Hotel, where senior police officials were present.
When the guards stopped them, arguments broke out and one of the attackers pulled out a pistol and fired on the guards while the other one hurled a hand grenade towards the hall. One of the bombers pushed through, but he blew himself up before he reached his target.
The other attacker's bomb detonated after he was shot by security guards, witnesses and police told DPA.
"The dead bodies were cut into pieces," Nuur Ahmed, a witness, told DPA.
