Dame Elisabeth Murdoch is recovering in hospital after a fall at her home in Melbourne's outer southeast.
Dame Elisabeth is believed to have suffered a broken leg in the fall.
Her family has issued a statement on Thursday saying she is recuperating in hospital following a fall at home and thanked well-wishers on her behalf.
A family spokesman asked that the 103-year-old be given privacy to continue her treatment.
Dame Elisabeth's son, media mogul Rupert Murdoch, is in Australia and has cancelled appointments in Sydney to be with her in Melbourne, Fairfax Radio said.
Dame Elisabeth lives at Cruden Farm, 50 kilometres southeast of Melbourne, which was given to her by her late husband Keith Murdoch in 1928.
It is set on more than 54 hectares and its gardens are open to the public several times a year.
Matriarch of four generations, Dame Elisabeth has more than 60 descendants.
She was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire for her own community work.
