Maclaren USA, a company which makes pushchairs has announced the recall of around one million pushchairs after a dozen children in this type of pushchair had their fingertips amputated in the hinge.
Patty Davis of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said the organisation had received a total of 15 reports of injuries to fingers, twelve of which resulted in fingertips being amputated.
The amputations happened when children placed their finger in the hinge while the pushchair, or stroller, was being unfolded reports CNN.
The recall involves all Maclaren single and double umbrella pushchairs.
The firm has requested that consumers stop using the pushchairs immediately and get in touch for a repair kit.
Davies said the free repair kit provided hinge covers for each side of the pushchair, which would restrict access to the hinges but allow the pushchair to remain fully functional.
