A group of British Gurkha soldiers is under investigation after a 14-year-old boy died from injuries sustained in a nightclub fracas in Belize.
Police in Belize said 15 Gurkhas got into a fight with four local youths at Raul's Rose Garden nightclub.
One of them, David Zabaneh, 14, was badly beaten in the attack last Thursday and was flown to hospital in Florida where he died of his injuries two days later.
The teenager was the son of a prominent businessman and his friends at the club were said to include Said Mussa Junior, the son of the country's prime minister.
The attack on the outskirts of Belize City came after the Gurkhas from the 2nd Parachute Regiment based at Colchester, Essex, had finished six weeks of jungle training. Six Gurkhas were reportedly in military custody for questioning.
Michael Reid, a spokesman for Belize police, said: "The place is frequented by British personnel. An investigation is under way and specialists have been flown over from England."
The other Belizeans involved in the fight were aged between 14 and 17, he added.
