Expect long hair, black T-shirts, and plenty of leaping about at the Transmission Room this Tuesday night. Metal fans will be stoked to hear that melodic death metal band Arch Enemy is in town, all the way from their native Sweden. Bucking the trend of male vocalists in this genre, frontwoman Angela Gossow will keep things rocking through the night.

The band needs no introduction, but if you have not listened to Fat Freddy's new album, some of the music pumping out of the Powerstation this weekend will be new to you. Friday and Saturday the Auckland venue becomes Fat Freddy's Drop HQ, as they work through their album, Dr Boondigga & The Big BW, plus deliver a few classics from their huge-selling debut, Based on a True Story.

FOLK/COUNTRY
Dunedin-based indie country trio Delgirl Porchlight are in the North Island to spread their sound, and cover off the Auckland region with three shows this weekend. Expect songs about "love, murder, lonesome livestock and road rage" from members Deirdre Newall, Erin Morton and Lynn Vare.

UK band The Foals are on the up and up, being selected by Blur for a support slot in Hyde Park was just one highlight of a busy 2009. Two members also have crafted a cheeky DJ career on the side. When they play Auckland this weekend expect a mash-up of "kraut rock, minimal techno, math rock, electro-house, Talking Heads, and disco-not-disco".

The popular Late series of events at the Auckland Museum continues tonight with an evening of music and talk with the overarching theme: Voyage Of The Ancestors. The discussion is chaired by Finlay Macdonald, who is joined by Jock Phillips, Matahi Brightwell, and Geoffrey Irwin. SJD, David Kilgour and poet Sam Hunt take care of the soundtrack.

THEATRE
With 40 years of experience performing on some of the finest stages in the world, a legend of musical theatre is not done yet. Elaine Page has graced stages from the West End to Broadway, and tours New Zealand this week. The show sees Page delivering a "best of", two-hour performance recreating some of her favourite roles, complete with orchestra.
