The cloud hanging over most of the country is expected to clear this afternoon as the sun threatens to melt any uneaten Easter eggs.
Whangarei is already sitting at 21C and is expected to be the pick of places to be reaching 26C later today.
Holidaygoers heading to the Royal Easter Show in Auckland should pack hats and sunscreen as the sun is expected to come out this afternoon with a high of 25C.
Hamilton started off with a colder spell sitting at 17C, but it and Tauranga will have a similar hot afternoon also forecast about 25C once the cloud burns off.
MetService meteorologist Emma Blades said rain was threatening the West Coast and Southland this evening, but the rest of the country looked relatively dry.
She said cloud was hanging around the North Island this morning, but sunny spells would break through this afternoon.
The weather was expected to be pretty similar tomorrow.
"Temperature wise it's looking pretty typical for this time of year. Nice and mild. Nothing too hot, nothing too cold.
Auckland is looking around the low 20s maximum temperatures this week, Wellington again low 20s and Christchurch again looking around low 20s so pretty typical temperatures."
Those heading to the Warbirds over Wanaka international air show can expect warmer weather with the temperature already at 17C and rising to 20C later today compared to neighbouring Queenstown which is sitting at just 12C.
Southlanders are in for a slightly chillier time with the temperature in Invercargill is only 13C and and rising just 3C to a high of 16C as it goes into its extra long weekend, celebrating its anniversary day on Tuesday.
