The staying greyhounds feature in their Group 1 decider this evening at Hatrick when they clash in the $21,000 Adept Accountants Wanganui Distance.
Two heats held over the extreme 755m distance finalised a field that has brought together an even, competitive looking line-up.
It was the Angela Turnwald-prepared Tranquil Blossom who returned the quickest heat time, clocking 44.77s.
She finished strongly from an early rear group position.
"The key for the final is how handy she get to Karen's dog [Thrilling Flo] during the running," said the trainer's partner Paul Freeman.
"I feel if she's within five lengths of her then yes, she can win it. Backing up with her isn't an issue,"
The in-form Karen Walsh prepared stayer Thrilling Flo produced a bold front running display when securing her 44.80s heat win.
She is in superb current staying form - having stylishly won recent 747m and 766m staying features.
"I would like to see her out in front again which means the others have to catch her. She is a determined greyhound when setting the pace," said Walsh.
This final has previously been dominated by Arch Lawrence-prepared stayers, having trained the last three winners.
Two of those stayers, Teemaria and Shandell are returning this evening.
Teemaria hinted she is returning to form after an injury spell, when seen running on late for her heat third, while Shandell was caught in a degree of jostling which led to her scrapping into this final via her fourth placing.
"Both of my girls have come through their heats in great style.
"I believe they are still competitive stayers at the top level even though they're getting towards the end of their careers," advised Lawrence, who has also qualified a younger half-brother to his pair of girls in Augello.
His wide running racing style suggests his trap one draw is likely to hinder him during the early rush.
On the other paw, the Peter Fergusson and Greg Hore trained Tron Bradman has drawn to use his swooping tactics from the eight trap.
Cawbourne Buckle produced a brave heat effort for Matt Roberts, when she gamely led the chase after Thrilling Flo for her heat second.
She is likely to have derived benefit from that outing.
