It was all eye on the green maize at the Wanganui RSA yesterday as three days of the NZ Masters Games 8-ball pool competition got underway with around 40 competitors

Pairs and mixed pairs championships were being decided.

In the ladies draw, the 40-56 years gold was won by Whanganui's Margaret Broughton and Glenis Hill, who beat townmates Lyn Brasting and Charlene Tamati in the final, with two sets of bronze given to the eliminated semifinalists.

The 56+ crown went to Whanganui's Tina Mouri-Downs and Ingrid Gawler, with Marie Stewart (Sanson) and Carole Hunt (Bulls) in runnerup.

In the men's 56+ years doubles, the gold was won by Wilz Bulcraig (Palmerston North) and Peter Madsen (Tokoroa), with the silver going to Dallas Rodgers (Whanganui) and John Hina (Waiheke) and bronze to Whanganui's Mike Healey and Brian O'Leary.

The men's 40-56 pairs and the mixed pairs continued yesterday afternoon, and the singles competition begins today.

In a correction to Saturday's story, the Wanganui RSA's annual 8-Ball Open was not held over the weekend, and is instead being held this coming weekend, February 11-12.
