The pride of Whangaehu's O'Leary brothers in Who Shot Thebarman will be hoping to go two places better in today's running of the Melbourne Cup.
The 2014 Group 1 Auckland Cup winner, who came third at that year's A$6.2 million cup race, Who Shot Thebarman has been priced at $31 as seventh favourite - the best odds of the three Kiwi horses in the field including Pentathlon ($81) and Rose of Virginia ($151).
The horse is owned by Dan, Michael, Shaun and Humphrey O'Leary and is trained by expatriate New Zealander Chris Waller.
It was named after a favourite saying of the O'Leary's aunt when her gin glass was empty and needed a refill.
TAB NZ has reported that up to 70 members of the O'Leary brothers family and friends will travel to Melbourne to support the horse.
The seven year-old was bred by White Robe Lodge's Brian and Lorraine Anderton in North Taieri, Mosgiel.
This will be Who Shot Thebarman's third tilt at the cup.
The great race starts at around 5pm NZ time.
