Mini Motocross competitors from Whanganui performed strongly in wet and muddy conditions at the Gold Coast Motocross Champs near Foxton last weekend.
Many of the riders have been entering various regional series around the North Island to get ready for the New Zealand Minis Nationals.
In the 9-11 year 65cc class, locals Jet Ashworth and Troy Bullock finished second and third overall respectively, racing hard in a very close division.
Ashworth had to come back from a crash on the first lap of the last race for his grade.
Fellow Whanganui rider Chase Williamson placed 10th.
Whanganui swept the podium in the 4-8 year 50cc class - with Matthew Bell winning, followed by Travis Andrews and Isaac Ashworth, while Michael Bell was fourth.
The title was only decided between Bell and Andrews on the last race, while the pair would also enter the 7-8 years 65cc class and finish fifth and seventh respectively.
Amongst the other Whanganui riders, Ryan and Joel Matthews came sixth and 10th in the 7-11 years trail division.
"The young Whanganui riders rode with skill, enthusiasm and determination and are well supported by their families and sponsors," said spokeswoman Faye Bullock.
"This is reflective in the podium results."
