The region's young sport achievers will once again be supported and recognised by their peers at the Whanganui Secondary Schools' Sports Awards next month.
Organiser Sport Whanganui is delighted to have Dub.Dee.See. Youth Committee back on board as event partner for a second year running.
The awards are held in Term 4 each year to celebrate the sporting achievements of secondary schools across the Whanganui, Rangitikei and Ruapehu districts. This year's awards night is on Wednesday, October 26 from 5.15pm-8pm in the Whanganui City College hall.
"We're delighted to partner for a second year with Dub.Dee.See. Youth Committee to deliver this prestigious event," Sport Whanganui's CEO Danny Jonas said.
"This is a great example of youth supporting youth and will provide an excellent opportunity for our region's young sports achievers to be recognised among their peers."
Sport Whanganui has received nominations across 10 categories and will be looking to receive many more from schools once they return for Term 4.
Sport Whanganui's Regional Sport Director for secondary schools, Clare Lynch says she is looking forward to seeing the nominees on the night, along with their family and friends.
Members of the public are also welcome to join in the night's celebrations, which will include the awards ceremony itself, drinks and nibbles and a talk by former Whanganui student Kat Austin who was the Operations Manager for Athletics NZ at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
"The awards are a great way to recognise our region's young people as athletes, coaches and volunteers," Lynch said.
"It's going to be a fantastic night and as well as having Dub.Dee.See. Youth Committee on board as our event partner for a second year, we're very excited to have Kat Austin as this year's guest speaker."
Dub.Dee.See. Youth Committee's youth councillor Macy Duxfield said it was important to recognise the massive sporting talent in the region.
"We are excited to support this kaupapa again this year to recognise the massive sporting talent in our region and we also see the value of highlighting and celebrating the hard work that so many young people put into their sporting achievements. We saw value in continuing this partnership and know it will have a positive impact on youth," Duxfield said.
The awards night will kick off at 5.15pm with drinks and nibbles and the awards ceremony will start at 6pm. Tickets are $10 each for the general public, nominees are free. Tickets can be purchased now at the Sport Whanganui office, 40 Maria Place Extension.
