Thirty-seven teams started it but the question is who will finish it, as the 11-a-side football competition of the Southern Trust New Zealand Masters Games kicked off at Wembley Park yesterday.
Having only a third as many teams compete the week before in the six-a-side tournament, numbers were much healthier for the three days of games throughout four grades - women's, men's 50+, 45+ and 35+.
This included a New Zealand Defence Force team, three squads from Auckland, plus Wellington and Palmerston North and regular local club sides from Castlecliff, Marist and Wanganui AFC.
Visiting teams also had strong Australian contingents.
The finals start tomorrow from noon.
