They were casting their eye for two-wheeled talent and the Wanganui Intermediate sports organisers were spoiled for choice yesterday.
The school was holding its annual mountain biking challenge around its grounds on a warm afternoon.
Around 300 students, half the roll, were out there having a go across the Year 7-8 grades.
The Year 8 boys had the toughest row to hoe in the race as they did two laps instead of one along the 1-2km course around the wider school grounds.
Organiser Nigel McIlroy said the best mountain bikers would be chosen in the intermediate's 'supersport team' which will compete in the Interschool competitions in April.
The winners were: Year 7 Girls: Ali Gammeter; Year 7 Boys: Ethan Cohen; Year 8 Girls: Emily Mayhead; Year 8 Boys: Hamish Beissel.
