Young kayaker Toby Brooke could not be caught in Sydney at the Australian Canoe Grand Prix 3 at the weekend.
The 15-year-old Wanganui High School student and Wanganui Kayak Club member dominated the Under 16 grade of the regatta, one of the largest outside of World Champs and Olympics.
Brooke picked up three K1 gold medals.
"His favoured 1000m event saw him 11.36 seconds ahead of his nearest rivals, the 500m was a little closer with a 1.33 second win and the 200m his least favoured event was a very close finish," said co-coach Brian Scott.
"It appears he had a bad start and had to claw them back. Nothing short of a fantastic set of results."
Brooke won the 200m final in 43.49s, edging out local Sam Hutchinson of the Sydney Northern Beaches club, who finished in 43.53s.
The Wanganui K1 competitor was also chased by Hutchinson in the 1000m final but this time it was no contest, as Brooke's scintillating time of 4m 09.15s was well clear of all his Australian rivals.
In the 500m final, his 1m 52.78s time had him clear of Northern Territory's Shaun Osborn and Hutchinson.
